The Kalamata olive (Olea europaea) comes from Kalamata, a small town in the Peloponnese in southern Greece.
Consumed by locals for thousands of years, the fruit is a cherry-sized fruit that grows on small calamon trees.
Although known as the "Greek black olive", it is dark purple in color. They have a completely different flavor from other olives.
